SYNOPSIS OF RUBY MOON
A synopsis of the play Ruby Moon, life seems to be picture perfect in Flaming Tree Grove for Sylvie and Ray Moon. At least until 6 years old Ruby Moon was missing. This play is about the tragic catastrophe that downfalls upon a happy couple, Ray and Sylvie, trying to cope with the disappearance of their six years old daughter, Ruby Moon. Ruby Moon went missing while she was on her way to visit her grandmother at the end of the cul-de-sac. The obsessed parents Sylvie and Ray Moon continue to spend their days and nights, re-inventing every possibilities of the day of Ruby's disappearance in order for them to get a clue on Ruby's disappearance.
The story somehow turns into a detective story as the couple desperately conducted their own investigation. They visited a group of peculiar characters whom lives in their neighbourhood, in the hope of finding some clues that may lead to Ruby's disappearance. These peculiar characters are acted by Sylvie and Ray themselves. Sylvie a acted as an old Christian fanatic lady that has a parrot, a sexy and seductive singer, and their former babysitter who is obsessed with dolls. As for Ray, he acted as a mentally unstable clown-wannabe, a violent ex‐soldier, and a mad scientist.
Sylvie keep a child mannequin outside their house, dressed in the same ruby red dress which Ruby wore when she was last seen in, hoping that everybody will not forget about Ruby and never to cease their search of Ruby. Just when Sylvie was about to give up hope, an ominous parcel arrives on their doorstep. Inside the parcel was the arm of Ruby's doll. They re-acted the incidents that had happened until it led up to her disappearance and conduct their own investigation by interrogating all their neighbours along the street. There is a strange and mysterious character in the play that Sylvie mention quite often known as 'The Wizard'. This character was never seen but often knocks on the Moons' door or was it Sylvie imagining the door knocking.
Traumatize by the loss of their child Ray and Sylvie seems to role-play these events of possibilities to satisfy their curiosity. Each time Ray is unable to interact with Sylvie this role-play will start all over again. Towards the end of the play when Sylvie acted as her daughter, Ruby that had returned home the audience wondered whether Ruby had an incest relationship with her own father. But it soon turns into a merry fight where everything is revealed and the audience would probably realize that the couple was role-playing the day when they lost their daughter. The couple will never get over of not knowing what had really happen to their missing child. The play never resolves the disappearance of Ruby Moon or the couple’s grief and the play ends the way it begun.
